A fire in Samut Prakan destroyed a two-storey wooden house and claimed the life of a 79-year-old former Provincial Electricity Authority employee. Thick black smoke billowed above the Bang Phueng area in Phra Pradaeng district as firefighters battled intense flames for over 45 minutes before bringing them under control. Authorities later discovered the body of the homeowner, identified as Mr. Suwit, in the bathroom on the ground floor, along with large quantities of burnt cash estimated to exceed one million baht.

The incident occurred around 10:00 on 2 November 2025 in Soi Nakhon Khuean Khan 5, prompting a rapid response from the Phra Pradaeng Police and multiple fire units from Lat Luang Municipality, Bang Yo Subdistrict Administrative Organisation and Phra Pradaeng Municipality. Mr. Suwit’s niece, Ms. Passinee, aged 51, was reportedly away at work at the time, leaving her uncle home alone. After the fire was extinguished, officials found the victim’s body lying on his back and severely burned.

Mr. Suwit was known to suffer from chronic health problems, which police believe may have hindered his escape. Inside the remains of the house, investigators found stacks of banknotes in various denominations stored in cardboard boxes and wooden crates, much of which had been destroyed by the flames. Phra Pradaeng District Chief, Mr. Anon Buranaphakdee and municipal officials inspected the site and confirmed that the house had been completely gutted. Neighbouring homes also sustained damage due to the rapid spread of the fire.

Witnesses described scenes of panic and confusion as the fire spread quickly through the densely built wooden homes. Ms. Phannee, 55, said she was hanging laundry when she noticed flames coming from the side of the house and shouted for help before calling firefighters. Another neighbour, Ms. Phanida, 59, reported hearing loud popping sounds similar to firecrackers before seeing the blaze engulf the property. Residents worked together to help elderly occupants from nearby houses to safety as the fire intensified.

Police from Phra Pradaeng Station are coordinating with the Forensic Science Division to determine the precise cause of the fire. The deceased’s body has been sent to the Police General Hospital’s Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy to confirm the cause of death before being released to relatives for funeral rites. Investigators continue to assess the extent of damage and the condition of the recovered money.
