Former deputy Bangkok governor Samart Ratchapolsitte has criticised authorities for not providing a clear explanation for the sinkhole on Samsen Road. Over a month since the incident on 24th September, there has been no official statement or technical report detailing the cause, leaving many concerned. Samart took to Facebook to voice his dissatisfaction with the lack of answers.

According to Samart, the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), responsible for the area's underground train project, suggested soil and groundwater may have altered the soil's structure, leading to the collapse. However, Samart called this explanation vague and lacking in engineering or soil analysis. He warned that such statements might allow those responsible to escape accountability by framing the incident as unavoidable.

Samart posed three critical questions to the MRTA: Was jet grouting, a technique for soil strengthening and waterproofing, conducted properly? Have nearby buildings been inspected for structural risks? Were other underground railway stations constructed safely? These questions highlight increasing public demand for transparency and accountability.

Experts and residents express concerns about potential safety risks if underlying issues remain unaddressed. The incident brings attention to infrastructure safety in Bangkok, under scrutiny as developments continue. The absence of a report has led to speculation and fosters mistrust among the public.

As the public awaits an official explanation, the calls for a thorough investigation grow louder. The MRTA and related authorities face pressure to provide comprehensive findings and ensure similar incidents don't occur in the future.

Key Takeaways:

  • Samart Ratchapolsitte demands explanations for the Samsen Road sinkhole.
  • The MRTA suggested soil issues, lacking detailed analysis, according to Samart.
  • Public pressure mounts for safety assurances and accountability.
