Police in Nakhon Ratchasima have launched an investigation into the death of a 68-year-old woman found hanging at her home, amid suspicions of foul play. The incident occurred on November 3, when officers were called to a house in the Nong Bua Sala sub-district of Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima. The woman, identified as Pawanphat, was discovered dead in her bedroom, leaning against a window with her neck tied to the window grille.

Police from Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima Police Station attended the scene with rescuers from the Sawang Metta Foundation and forensic doctors. The medical team estimated that Pawanphat had been dead for at least 12 hours before being found. Her body was later transferred to Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital for a full autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Inside the single-storey home, officers found her 72-year-old bedridden husband and two employees who had been hired to care for him. Due to his medical condition, the husband was unable to communicate with investigators. The two employees, who were present at the time of the discovery, have not yet provided full statements to police.

A neighbour told officers that the couple had no children together, though the husband had one child from a previous marriage who rarely visited. The neighbour added that the pair had once operated a fabric shop in Kim Heng Market, which they closed several years ago because of old age and financial difficulties. Since the husband became bedridden eight years ago, Pawanphat had devoted herself entirely to his care. She was described as a kind and friendly woman who sometimes mentioned health problems and exhaustion.

Although Channel 7 reported that the scene initially appeared consistent with suicide, police remain cautious and continue to suspect foul play. Investigators are now questioning others involved in the couple’s daily lives, seeking to clarify the circumstances surrounding the death. The case has drawn local concern due to the woman’s reputation for dedication and her role as the main caregiver for her husband.

Authorities say they will await the autopsy results before confirming whether the death was self-inflicted or the result of criminal activity. Police have pledged to interview all relevant witnesses to ensure no possibility is overlooked in the ongoing inquiry.

Key Takeaways

• Police are investigating the death of 68-year-old Pawanphat in Nakhon Ratchasima after she was found hanging at her home.

• Though the scene suggested suicide, officers have not ruled out foul play pending autopsy results.

• All individuals involved in the couple’s care and daily activities are being questioned as part of the investigation.

It does look suspicious if the husband is still alive and needing her to help him (besides the two helpers).
