According to a report by the Thai news website "The Tiger", the incident took place at a popular waterfall in the northwest of the island. Tourists who were present recorded the act and spread the videos on social media, which sparked a wave of angry reactions and concerns about damage to Thailand's image.

Following the publications, Suriya Bonphan, head of the Kopangan district, ordered the couple to be located, and it soon became clear that they were staying at a lodging facility in Village No. 7 in the area.

Today, police and immigration officers arrested the pair at their lodgings and escorted them to the local immigration office for questioning. According to officials, the couple confessed to the act and were taken to the police station, where legal proceedings were opened against them for "committing an indecent act in public."

The Thai news website quoted police officials as stressing that such behavior violates Thai law, violates local customs, and tarnishes the image of popular natural sites. According to local law, having sex or committing an indecent act in a public place is considered an offense under Section 388, punishable by a fine of up to 5,000 baht (about 500 shekels). In cases where those involved are foreign nationals, immigration authorities may then take additional measures - including deportation from the country or a re-entry ban. According to local media reports, the investigation into the couple's case is being conducted in cooperation between the Koh Phangan police and the Surat Thani provincial immigration unit, which stressed that such cases "damage the island's image and are contrary to local customs.
