Police from the 191 Special Operations Division have arrested a group allegedly involved in operating mule bank accounts during a raid at a popular shopping mall in Chonburi province. The operation, conducted on 7 November, led to the capture of five suspects, four men and one woman, while they were attempting to withdraw funds believed to be linked to online fraud. Officers seized more than 1.2 million baht in cash, several bank books, ATM cards and mobile phones at the scene.

The arrests followed intelligence received by the Special Patrol Division, indicating that a group had been buying and selling bank accounts through Facebook groups dedicated to mule account trading. These accounts were reportedly used to receive and transfer money obtained through illegal online schemes. Acting on the tip-off, undercover officers arranged a meeting with the suspects and tracked them to the Chonburi shopping centre where the withdrawal was taking place.

Police said the suspects had been hired to open and manage multiple accounts on behalf of criminal networks, providing the infrastructure for large-scale financial scams. The accounts were used to move illicit funds quickly and obscure their origins, making it difficult for victims and investigators to trace the money. Authorities believe the group is part of a wider online fraud operation targeting victims across Thailand.

Following the arrest, the suspects were taken into custody and transferred to investigators at Samet Police Station for questioning and legal proceedings. Police are now expanding the investigation to identify other members of the network and determine how far the group’s activities have spread. The operation forms part of an ongoing crackdown on cybercrime and financial scams nationwide.

Investigators said further coordination will take place with cybercrime agencies to trace digital evidence and online financial transactions connected to the seized bank accounts. Officials have urged the public to be cautious about offers to open or sell bank accounts, warning that such actions can lead to criminal charges if linked to fraud.
