Trump Gives Hungary One-Year Break From Russia Energy Sanctions

Donald Trump has granted Hungary a one-year exemption from US sanctions on Russian oil and gas, handing Viktor Orban a major political victory and reigniting tensions with Europe over energy ties to Moscow.

The White House confirmed the move Friday, following Orban’s visit to Washington — a meeting that showcased the Hungarian leader’s unusually warm ties with Trump. The US president said Hungary faced “unique challenges” as a landlocked nation reliant on Russian pipelines, adding it was “very difficult for him to get the oil and gas from other areas.”

The exemption, limited to 12 months, shields Hungary from penalties imposed after Washington blacklisted two of Russia’s largest energy firms last month. In exchange, Budapest will buy several hundred million dollars’ worth of US natural gas, a sweetener unlikely to calm critics in Brussels who accuse Orban of undermining Western unity against Moscow.

Hungary’s foreign minister, Péter Szijjártó, hailed the deal as a “full and unlimited exemption,” though US officials later clarified the one-year limit. Orban had warned that without relief, the sanctions would “ruin” his economy.

Trump’s decision appears to contradict his earlier hard line against nations continuing trade with Russian energy giants — a stance that has strained relations even with some allies.

The two populist leaders also discussed the Ukraine war, with Trump suggesting Orban’s relationship with Vladimir Putin could help end the conflict. “Viktor feels we’re going to get that war ended in the not-too-distant future,” Trump said.

Orban, for his part, said only the US and Hungary truly wanted peace, calling hopes of a Ukrainian victory “a misunderstanding of the situation.”

Key Takeaways:

  • Trump grants Hungary a one-year exemption from Russian energy sanctions.

  • Orban hails it as a “victory,” critics say it undermines unity against Moscow.

  • Hungary will buy US gas as part of the deal, easing pressure on its economy.

And, of course, Trump will blame the EU for still importing Russian energy, while it's mainly done by his pals in Hungary and Slovakia! 😆

Well, Trump is truly living up to his TACO label in letting Hungary buy Russian oil and also despite his mouthing off that he has warned Putin several times about continuing the war, Putin ramps it up with more intense bombing of Ukraine. Seems like Donny is a toothless pussy cat and rolls over very easily....

In my lifetime I have never seen a more despicable US Pres than Trump, and I doubt I ever will and I can only hope that I will live long enough to see the orange clown pushing up daisies.

Another back-track, how surprising...........:saai:

Perhaps Orban's visit had a personal private message purpose letting Trump know Putin has rewarded him with some exclusive info as a reward for being a fly in the ointment for NATO ?

At least Ukraine has learned by now that Trump is on Putin's side.

During their meeting ,Victor wanted to hire the GOAT Trump  press secretary !

Two things they both have in common,

Keeping out the lefts globalist immigration initiatives and knowing talent in press secretaries.
