Violent loan shark gangs in Udon Thani has been accused of assaulting a disabled woman and firing shots at residents who failed to repay debts on time. The first gang, known for its brutal methods, attacked a 57-year-old disabled woman and threatened to kill her, while another group allegedly chased and fired at a borrower attempting to escape them. Police have launched an investigation after victims filed complaints detailing multiple incidents involving physical assault, theft and intimidation.

The first attack took place on 6 November 2025 in Ban Suan Mon village, Kumphawapi district, where Ms. Ratree, a 57-year-old woman with a walking disability, was struck on the head by a gang member known as “Mr. Suea.” She had borrowed THB 4,000 on behalf of a neighbour, repaying most of the loan but still owing THB 1,500. When she told the collectors she could not pay immediately, Mr. Suea punched her in the head, causing her to fall forward on her mobility scooter. The victim later contacted Kumphawapi Police, reporting that the assailant later phoned to apologise and offered to write off the remaining debt.

Police from Kumphawapi Station, led by Pol Col. Wichan Suthamphaeng, are investigating after Ms. Ratree filed a formal complaint. Officers visited her home along with local media to gather evidence. While police were still interviewing her, another victim, Ms. Kom, 53, arrived to report that she had been threatened and robbed by a separate loan gang led by “Mr. Palm.” She said she borrowed THB 6,000, repaying THB 200 daily, but still owed around THB 3,000. When she asked for more time to pay, the collector seized her phone and about THB 100 in cash, then chased and fired a gunshot at her as she fled by car.

Investigators subsequently tried to lure both Mr. Suea and Mr. Palm to collect their payments, but neither appeared. Police now believe the gangs were tipped off and are hiding. Both gangs are being pursued for violent assault, armed intimidation and other offences. Residents allege the same individuals have previously fired weapons, burned houses and threatened debtors without facing arrest.

Authorities are under pressure to take action after CCTV footage showed Mr. Palm previously firing three shots at residents in Non Sa-ard village, Mueang district, on 29 August 2025. Despite clear evidence, the suspects remain at large and locals say they are living in fear. Police have pledged to intensify efforts to apprehend both gangs and restore public safety.

This would be why they are called loan SHARKS. When you don't repay on time, they attack any way possible to get their money with interest.
