Month to Month Condo Rental

Yes, thanks.  I was hoping to stop into a few rental offices and hopefully they would know what might be available.  Places like Bolton comes to mind but I know there are many other rental offices all over the place.  Over the years I was rarely in country more than one month each trip so I never really looked into it.  Longer stays are coming such as my upcoming as I arrive on the 90 day non imm O for retirement visa to start laying some ground work.  I have been 15 times but not since 2019

The best deals i have found were by riding around looking for "for rent" signs in Thai
Obviously that method is not for everyone though
When you get here it may be wise to immediately start looking and speaking to people so you do not need rush into anything
Right now it is a tenants market.

  • Same old problem,  to get a 3 month rental over the busy high season you'll pay top dollar, try airbnb, no sane landlord will let you have a condo for the normal monthly rent

  • A member of this forum for 21 years and never had a Thai bank account?

There is a Youtube channel called "Pattaya Reds". The guy is going around Pattaya filming apts and condos.  When it's a "month by month" rental, he mentions it in the title of the video.

because with a Defense security clearance you have to report every foreign involvement, be it a bank account, a property you own or rent, regular foreign people you deal with etc.  When getting a Special Access Program (SAP) additional thing, they want all that information and that can slow things down quite a bit.  Security clearance has a lot of things most people are not aware of.

And before anyone starts sniping, you are correct and not alone in that regard. Some people do not understand that even basic security clearances of far less importance than defense involve financial declarations and disclosure. Having a foreign bank account opens one up to alot of aggravation and mandatory report filing,  and authorizations for third party verification.

Understood.  I was hoping for a more concrete business place in case I need a more permanent residence type of place in order to open my first Thai Bank account.  I have read the bank may be picky about a residence.

When I opened a bank account with Bangkok Bank I was in an apartement hotel at that time. No Problem to give them this address. The name didn't mention "hotel"
No I always stay at AirBnb and gave them the AirBnb Address. No problem as well. Thet never send mails

You could try The Grass on Pattaya Tai. They have an Apart/hotel block. No idea what the availability might be or indeed the rate, but maybe worth checking.

There are also various 'lock up and leave' options that mostly you would only find by word of mouth or per chance.

5k for a partly furnished apartment, of say 40 sq.m/430 sq.ft in a good location. At 60k per annum, you just keep it. Always there waiting for you.

But for those options, you need friends who could open it up every now and again for fresh air when you aren't there and to freshen it up prior to your arrival. Of course you can get the staff to do it for a small stipend.

I guess when the OP makes friends he may find those options.

Thank you. I understand.  I was trying to keep things simple because a month or two later if I go for the first one year extension, I would think having a different address from my initial address from when I opened the bank account adds some complexity.  Tm xx forms, pictures of my residence and me i front, etc.  All the stuff that seems to pop up.

Not sure immigration checks if the address registered with the bank is the same as the actual one. They never asked for pictures, only to draw a map of the area where I stay. They never asked for photos.

In 15 years here in Pattaya, I've probably moved at least 15 times.  I have 4 different bank accounts and I doubt any of them have my current address.  The frequent moves have not been a problem with Immigration and getting 1 year extensions.

Really?  I read about immigration visits to wherever one is living, photos of you outside the front of the place, hand drawn maps, etc. Is that for marriage extensions only?   thanks for the post.

I will be staying at the Hard Rock Hotel for my first three nights.  I have a lot of unity points from the Seminole/Hard Rock casinos in Florida I earned this year and can use them and have used them to pay for 3 nights at the hotel.  I will have a good look around the city.  I have been 15 times before going back to 2003I but have not been there since 2019.

In 15 years, I have never had an Immigration visit, never had to draw a map, and never had my photo taken outside of my residence.  Perhaps that is done for marriage visas, I don't know.

Pattaya has a number of different neighborhoods and my spouse and I have lived in most of them.  We are on the Darkside now, and liking it, but if we ever moved back beachside we would likely choose Wongamat  The Jomtien area, we feel, is getting just way too congested and there are a number of massive condo projects, both currently being built and on the drawing boards, that will only make things worse.

Pattaya is crawling with those SAS guys, especially at the cheap beer bars on the darkside.  As for condos, I'm going through the same thing now.  Reds has some good leads.
