A 30-year-old Chinese national has been arrested in Pattaya after overstaying his permission to stay by 1,043 days and allegedly working illegally as a tour guide. The arrest took place on November 13, 2025, in Najomtien, Sattahip district, following an investigation by tourist police. Officers said the man, identified as Jinlei, had been guiding Chinese tourists while using what appeared to be a fake tour guide licence.

The case came to light after the Facebook page Tourism News Circlereported that a man was operating tours without proper authorisation. Police traced the suspect to a hotel on Phra Tamnak Hill before detaining him while he was accompanying a group of Chinese tourists. Records showed that Jinlei entered Thailand on July 17, 2022, and was permitted to stay until January 5, 2023. He had remained in the country for nearly three years beyond the legal limit.

Authorities confirmed that Jinlei was charged with overstaying his visa, working without a permit and performing work outside the scope of his visa conditions. He was handed over to Najomtien police for further legal proceedings. The tourist police said he had been coordinating with licensed guides and assisting with tour operations, in violation of the law governing foreign employment.

Officials said the arrest highlights continued efforts to curb illegal work among foreign nationals, particularly in Thailand’s tourism sector. Tourist police urged the public to report any illegal activities involving foreigners that could harm the country’s tourism or economy. Reports can be made via the 1155 hotline or through the Thailand Tourist Police Facebook page.

Khoasod reported that Jinlei faces possible deportation and a re-entry ban after legal proceedings are completed. Authorities said they would continue monitoring online platforms and tourism networks for similar violations.

Maybe immigration could introduce software into their system to flag up over-stayers?

METV??

What is Thailand complaining about ? They just love to attract all the chinese in Thailand after all. Not to forget that the chinese tourists will only used chinese owned restaurants, hotels, shops...from which in any case the money goes right back to China, through the underground chinese hawala networks.

Would this mean deportation.

Well yes, if caught on overstay that is what happens. They get blacklisted for a minimum of 5 years. They can also be held in detention until they come up with the overstay fine and flight ticket.
