A man armed with an M16 rifle was arrested on 20 November 2025 following a deadly shooting in the Ang Thong–Tha Sae area of Chumphon that left one person dead and another seriously injured. The attacker, identified as a man aged 40, also shot a dog before fleeing, prompting authorities to issue urgent safety warnings to residents. Police launched an immediate operation to contain the situation as the community remained on high alert.

The shootings started at approximately 14:15 and occurred in two locations: Moo 1 of Hong Charoen subdistrict and Moo 5 of Sapphanan subdistrict. The incidents were swiftly reported by the Sapphanan subdistrict chief, who notified the district office as officers from Tha Sae Police Station and Salui Police Station moved in. Emergency teams secured the crime scenes and began tracking the suspect, who was believed to be heavily armed and capable of further violence.

Officials warned residents to remain indoors, avoid unnecessary travel and keep doors and windows securely locked while the manhunt was under way. Families were urged to supervise children, elderly relatives and vulnerable household members closely. The district issued repeated alerts stressing that the gunman posed an ongoing threat until apprehended.

Police and administrative officers expanded search operations throughout surrounding communities, blocking key routes and coordinating intelligence between units. Teams assessed potential escape paths and increased patrols as tensions rose over the possibility of repeated attacks. Local volunteers assisted by relaying information and supporting safety efforts in affected neighbourhoods.

As the operation intensified, officers managed to locate and detain the suspect, bringing an end to the immediate threat. Authorities reported that the man was taken into custody without further casualties and is now being questioned to determine the motive behind the attack. Investigators are reviewing witness statements and gathering evidence from both shooting locations.

Police stated that further details will be released as the investigation progresses, including the circumstances leading to the violent episode. Residents were thanked for their cooperation during the lockdown and advised to continue monitoring official updates. Authorities confirmed that enhanced patrols would remain in place to reassure the community following the incident.
