A local administration in Nakhon Ratchasima has rushed to strengthen safety measures at a nursery after a young girl was seen running onto a road outside the Suranaree University of Technology (SUT) Gate 1 area on 20 November 2025. The incident, which was captured on video and widely shared online, prompted immediate concern among parents and community members about the supervision and security of the centre. A passerby managed to reach the child in time and carry her back to safety before any vehicles approached.

The clip, posted in the Facebook group “ข่าวคนโคราชบ้านเอ็ง,” showed the girl wearing a pink outfit, while holding a milk bottle as she wandered onto the road leading into SUT. The footage raised questions about how she managed to leave the nursery grounds, sparking heavy criticism and calls for accountability. The video quickly gained traction and triggered a wave of debate about safety protocols at the facility.

On 21 November, officials at the Child Development Centre under the Nong Chabok Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO) took urgent action to close gaps in the nursery’s structure. SAO president Chathinya Saowakul ordered engineering staff to weld steel grilles a balcony area to ensure the spacing was too narrow for children to slip through. Deputy SAO presidents Veerasak Kongsiang and Pornpimon Thipposot, along with Acting Police Lieutenant Ampai Mungkunkhrom, director of the education division, monitored the installation closely.

Ampai explained that the incident occurred around midday during the children’s lunch break. The girl, who had been sleeping in the separate infirmary room, was not found when teachers returned from the canteen, prompting a search around the building. She was later discovered safely with a relative selling drinks outside the school and Ampai immediately contacted the parents to explain the situation.

The child’s mother called at 14.00 and accepted the explanation, asking only that safety measures be tightened. The father, who collected the girl at 15.00, also expressed no further concerns but emphasised the need for greater attention to all children. Ampai stressed that this was the first incident of its kind and noted that 32 children attended the centre on the day, out of a total enrolment of 43.

Matichon reported that the SAO has pledged additional long-term measures, including strengthening perimeter fencing, coordinating with Ban Nong Pru School on gate-opening schedules, and assigning teachers to monitor children with special needs more closely. It also acknowledged that the main gate, normally closed, had been left open on the day due to people entering and exiting. The SAO issued a formal apology to all parents and promised to work rigorously to rebuild confidence in the centre’s safety.

Key Takeaways

• A child ran onto a road outside a nursery but was safely recovered by a passerby.

• The SAO has installed steel grilles and pledged stricter safety procedures.
