Police from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) have arrested six Chinese nationals in Ayutthaya after discovering they had overstayed their visas by hundreds of days, including two individuals who remained in Thailand 900 days beyond their permitted period. The group was intercepted while travelling in a white Toyota Revo pickup truck on Phahonyothin Road, Chiang Rak Noi, Bang Pa-in district. Officers also suspect the men may be linked to call-centre operations fleeing intensified crackdowns in Myanmar’s KK Park.

Highway Police officers from Subdivision 1 under Highway Police Division 1 had been patrolling the area when they noticed the pickup truck parked suspiciously around 200 metres before a checkpoint. After identifying themselves and conducting a search, officers found the vehicle driven by a Thai man, Wattanachai, with six Chinese passengers inside. Passport checks and verification through the Immigration Bureau’s PIBIC system confirmed that while all had entered Thailand legally, none had applied for a lawful extension of stay.

Each individual had overstayed for different durations, ranging from 405 up to the two longest overstays, both recorded at 900 days. Police found further irregularities when examining the men’s mobile phones, noting an absence of typical personal usage data, raising concerns about attempts to conceal identities or avoid monitoring. The discovery coincided with ongoing military operations in Myanmar targeting call-centre syndicates and transnational criminal networks operating in KK Park.

Given these circumstances, officers believe the six men may be part of a wider network fleeing Myanmar before attempting to transit through Thailand. The group was taken into custody and transferred to investigators at Phra-Inracha Police Station to face legal proceedings for overstaying. Initial questioning through a Chinese interpreter yielded no cooperation, with all detainees refusing to provide helpful information.

The arrest was carried out under the direction of Police Lieutenant General Natthasak Chaonasai, Commissioner of the CIB, alongside senior commanders including Police Major General Pornsak Laorujiralai and Police Colonel Thatcha Phosuwan. Highway Police officers led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Supakorn Tangkhabrasert executed the operation and secured the suspects for further investigation. Police emphasised that the operation aligns with efforts to combat transnational crime and protect public safety.

Does the immigration service not have software that highlights when tourists  over-stay their permitted time, without leaving the country?
