Nearly 200,000 e-cigarettes and related items valued over 33 million baht have been destroyed in Thailand, marking a significant step towards creating an e-cigarette-free society. This action was overseen by PM's Office Minister Santi Piyatat on Tuesday at the Industrial Waste Management Centre in Bang Pu, Samut Prakan province. The initiative forms part of the "E-Cigarette-Free Thailand" policy, aiming for a healthier societal environment.

The destruction involved 179,125 confiscated devices, including e-cigarettes, refill liquids, and components, representing a coordinated effort across multiple agencies. Minister Santi highlighted the government's focus on eradicating products deemed harmful to public health, particularly concerning young people's safety. By removing these devices from circulation, the government aims to reduce healthcare expenses and tackle broader social issues.

Further reinforcing the government's commitment, the destruction aligns with national anti-vaping measures. Highlighting public involvement, Ronarong Poolpipat, secretary-general of the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), encouraged citizens to report illegal sales of e-cigarettes using the 1166 hotline or via ocpb.go.th and the OCPB Connect mobile app. This reflects a concerted effort to curb e-cigarette usage starting at community levels.

Looking ahead, continued vigilance and enforcement are anticipated as Thailand pushes forward with its anti-vaping agenda. The government’s strategy includes expanding public awareness and strengthening legislative actions against the sale and distribution of e-cigarettes. These steps are expected to further solidify Thailand's commitment to public health and safety, reported Bangkok Post.

Key Takeaways

  • Thailand has destroyed e-cigarettes worth 33 million baht.
  • The government prioritizes removing health risks associated with vaping.
  • Public reporting of illegal sales is encouraged via hotlines and apps.

I don't know which is worse.  Breathing in tobacco smoke or the obnoxious, chemical stew from vapers, which smells like the smoker's version of Pine Sol- an artificial product designed to mask stinky smells but only makes matters worse.  Kudos to Thailand for recognizing this danger and acting on it.

Why not stamp out corruption that does more damage  suffering to the people then smoking/vaping and drinking ,

Nah ,corruption  provides more money  ,to the people in power.

Can we have a video of the RTP actually destroying 200,000 e-cigarettes and related items valued over 33 million baht or can we have a video of the RTP transporting them back into the market. I think the latter is more likely. 😁
