The 2nd Army Region, under Lieutenant General Veerayut Raksilp, acting as Commander of the 24th Narcotics Suppression Unit (NBU 24), intercepted a drug shipment along the Mekong River in Mukdahan Province. The operation seized approximately 190,000 methamphetamine tablets before they could be smuggled further into the country.

The operation was part of a government-directed crackdown on illegal drugs, following policies from the Ministry of Defence, Deputy Minister of Defence and the Royal Thai Army Commander. NBU 24 coordinated with Surasak Montri Task Force, Upper Narcotics Suppression Division, 1st Control Battalion (R.3), and the 2105 Ranger Task Force to act on intelligence about illicit drug trafficking in Na Vieng Kaew, Na Sinuan Subdistrict, Mueang District, Mukdahan (coordinates 48Q VD746 240).

During the late afternoon authorities observed a long-tail boat crossing from the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and dumping suspicious items on the Thai shore before quickly returning to Laos. Officers maintained surveillance for two additional hours but no individuals came forward to claim the items. Upon inspection, the packages contained two sacks of methamphetamine, totalling approximately 190,000 tablets.

Thaitabloid reported that the seized drugs were transported to the 2105 Ranger Task Force headquarters for counting and will be handed over to Mueang Mukdahan Police Station for prosecution. The operation underscores ongoing efforts to pressure traffickers and users, and to integrate military, police, and administrative agencies in combating drug crimes in northeastern Thailand.
