Reports circulating on social media claiming Cambodian troops have occupied the Pha Inthra cliff area in Thailand’s Buriram province have been denied by the Second Army Region. Officials from security agencies, including the Border Patrol Police 216, conducted investigations and found no evidence of foreign military presence or activity within the area. Legal action is being considered against those responsible for spreading false information.

The Pha Inthra cliff, located in Ban Kruat district of Northeastern Thailand, became the focus after rumors suggested military movements by Cambodian forces. A team of officials, including district administration and forestry staff, visited the site and confirmed that there were no signs of land clearing or road construction attributed to Cambodian forces. The area, covered by dense forests and inaccessible to large vehicles due to rough road conditions, was thoroughly examined using satellite images and field surveys.

Military sources emphasized that historical data supports their findings, pointing out that the Border Patrol Police 216 base, once active in the area, was closed in 1990. No activities were detected that would indicate a breach of Thai sovereignty, and ongoing patrols will continue to monitor the border vicinity. Authorities intend to hold accountable those spreading misinformation under the Computer Crime Act, highlighting the need to prevent public alarm and ensure factual communication.

The Second Army Region has reassured the public that there is no threat to the safety of citizens living near the border. Investigations into the source of the social media posts are ongoing, with officials prepared to take necessary legal measures to address the situation and preserve regional stability, reported Thai Newsroom.

Key Takeaways

  • Thai authorities confirm no Cambodian military presence in Buriram.
  • Officials are pursuing legal action against fake news spreaders.
