A collision between a toilet truck and a motorcycle left two teenage students seriously injured in Udon Thani on December 1. The incident occurred at the intersection where Mukka Montri Road meets Phon Phisai Road, around 10:50 am. The two 16-year-old students, Marisa and Meena, were trapped under the truck, with both suffering broken legs.

Rescue teams, along with local police from Mueang Udon Thani Station, responded promptly to the accident. The students, both first-year vocational pupils at Udon Thani Polytechnic College, received first aid before being transported to Udon Thani Hospital for further treatment. The crash site was at the Udon Thani Teachers Savings Cooperative Intersection, where traffic lights are absent, contributing to the danger.

Pongnarin, the 49-year-old truck driver, explained his intended service trip to the Tung Sri Mueang annual festival. He stated that he signaled a right turn at the intersection but failed to notice the teens' motorcycle. CCTV later revealed the girls waiting to turn right when Pongnarin’s truck unexpectedly collided with them.

A peer, Juthamanee, disclosed to Channel 8 that five students traveled in a convoy on three motorcycles. While two motorcycles successfully navigated the turn, the third, carrying Marisa and Meena, was hit. Questions arose as to why the driver missed noticing the group.

Authorities charged Pongnarin with reckless driving, resulting in severe injury under Section 300 of the Criminal Law. This offense carries penalties of up to three years’ imprisonment, a fine up to 60,000 baht, or both, reported The Thaiger.
