I'm doing a Pattaya 7/11 crawl between the hours of 1400-1700 until I've had a Leo in every store in the city.  If you see an obese farang in a stained singlet outside your local 7, do say hello.

The world doesn't run on the 24 hour clock. How many people do you know that say 17 hundred hours rather than 5 o'clock?

Uh... yes actually it does...

Oh lordy.  All the of world's farang will get drunk between 2pm to 5pm and stagger around Thai schools.

I am guessing that the 00.00-11.00 ban is here to stay though. At least for a very long time. What are your thoughts on this remaining ban ? I mean, I am okay either way. But being more of a 'socially liberal' kind of person, I think I would like that ban to be scrapped too. By the way, for example, in Malaysia (at least in Penang), you can buy beer from 7-11 during night time. I was a bit surprised when I first realised that I could buy beer from a 7-11 there at around 2 am or so. This was several years ago, so I am not sure how things are now. Just for curiosity, I might later research how for example other countries in the region are in this aspect 🙂

I say 5 a clock but in written I  say 17.00

Has anyone else come across this. The 7 eleven i use has the usual sign on the fridge door permitting sales of alcohol between 1400 and 1700. Today there is additional sign which reads all in red. "The consumption of alcohol  between 1400 and 1700 is a criminal offense. Violators are subject to a 10.000 baht fine." What gives?

You could check the minimum ages of other countries while you're at it. For example, some years ago, I was surprised to learn that the minimum age in India (New Delhi, at least) was 25. That's the highest I've seen anywhere, though it might differ state to state,

With elections coming up it would  be good to see a sensible relaxation on  bans affecting sales on many days.
