Authorities arrested a 71-year-old man in Antipolo City for allegedly operating an illegal gun factory, seizing 12 unregistered firearms and parts, the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced. The operation took place with a search warrant for violations of Republic Act No. 10591, or the Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, at a facility in Barangay Santa Cruz on November 25. The suspect is currently in custody, awaiting charges for breaching sections of the Act.

The PNP conducted the raid after obtaining a search warrant, though the issuing court was not specified. During the operation, they confiscated various firearms: four .38 caliber revolvers; three 9mm pistols; an AR-18 caliber 5.56 rifle; a .357 caliber magnum revolver; two upper receivers for a .22 caliber mini rifle; and an upper receiver for a 12-gauge shotgun. Additionally, authorities found ammunition-reloading equipment and a substantial amount of bullet materials.

Police noted that the suspect was operating without the necessary licenses from the PNP Firearms and Explosives Office, directly violating Republic Act No. 10591. The PNP elaborated on the seized items, revealing the recovery of two reloading machines, a reloading press, a cartridge case cleaner, and approximately 2,593 assorted bullet heads. The operation highlights ongoing efforts to curb illegal firearms production.

Looking forward, the suspect will face formal complaints for violating Sections 28 and 32 of RA No. 10591. As the case unfolds, authorities are likely to continue investigations to dismantle illegal firearms networks. This incident underscores the need for reinforced regulations and vigilance against unauthorized gun manufacturing, reported Inquirer.
