Has anyone used UK ID APPLICATION on smart phone ? If so do you use VPN with UK IP ADDRESS or Thai IP ADDRESS?

 

Can one apply and change address on UK Driving License ? I have done this in past few years back but now its asking to download and photo verify on UK ID APP. My understanding is with IP address outside UK it will not allow you to do or security flag  can be raised ?

 

Honest helpful reply appreciated and I thank in advance for same. It technical know how as well ?

Do you wish to change the physical UK address on your UK driving licence to a physical Thai one? If so, this is completely impossible. Period.

 

One of the conditions is that you must be resident in the UK.

Although I live in Thailand, 3 years ago I sold and purchased another property in the UK.
I had a friend in the UK submit the application for a change of address to my UK DL requesting my existing passport photo be used.
The new licence was duly delivered to my new address and collected by my daughter.
I leave it in the UK as I have a Thai DL.

Yes, although technically I haven't been eligible for a UK DL for many years, I continue to renew it using my sister's address.  Worth hanging on to, even though I haven't had much cause to use it.  When I visit the UK and need to rent a car, I use my Thai DL.

Out of interest, did the hire company accept your Thai DL with or without an IDP?

No I want to change my UK address as I have sold my property when I was there but left with solicitors to complete transaction/handover. I had my sisters address now as she is also selling want to put my sons address. Previously I had done this online about four years back but now DVLA is asking to download UK ID app on phone, do face recognition  with passport or driving license than they can do it. This is new law recently updated not only for DVLA but all UK government work. Just wondered with new app and VPN can do or not ?

Yes UK hire company accept Thai Driving License. 2 years back I had hired at London Heathrow using Thai Driving license as my UK license had expired.

I suspect you will also require a UK  mobile phone number to do the

dystopian UK ID app palaver   a VPN may be useful after the app is setup but I have not gone through the rigmarole yet.

Can't comment on the mobile app, but if your son has a PC he can do it on your behalf and choose to use your existing passport photo.

As @johng also mentions, these days, like the UK Gov Gateway website, you may need a UK mobile to receive a PIN.

With or without an IDP from the Thai DLT?

I take it the name on your Thai DL is in English and states your passport number.

Yes my Thai Driving License has Passport Number. I also have Thai International Driving License but they did not ask for that.

No need for an IDP as a Thai licence is in English.

 

My Thai licence has my old passport number on it, but that wasn't an issue.
