A teenage intruder was seriously injured after being shot by a homeowner who discovered him inside a remote farmhouse in Phetchaburi late on 3 December. The incident occurred after the owner checked his security cameras, found the connection disabled and travelled to investigate the isolated property located in the middle of rice fields. Police said the break-in marked at least the fourth time the house had been targeted.

The shooting took place at a single-storey house in Moo 1, Bang Chan subdistrict, Mueang Phetchaburi district. The property, situated in complete darkness with no lighting, is normally unoccupied and used for tending farmland. Officers found 18-year-old Aran, from Ban Laem district, with three gunshot wounds from a 9mm pistol, striking his right shoulder, right arm and right knee, before he was taken to Phra Chom Klao Hospital.

Homeowner Santi, 65, told police that the house had been burgled three to four times before, prompting him to install CCTV. On the night of the incident, he noticed the cameras were offline, raising suspicion, leading him and his wife to travel from their residence in Nong Ya Plong district to check the property. There, they encountered Aran inside the house, prompting Santi to draw his firearm and shoot.

Police collected the weapon as evidence and are awaiting detailed statements from both the injured intruder and the shooter to establish the circumstances leading to the shooting. Investigators will determine whether the force used was legally justified and what charges, if any, will follow. Officers emphasised that the case will proceed according to legal protocols based on the forthcoming testimony and evidence.

Daily News reported that access to the crime scene proved difficult for responding officers due to the narrow dirt road running through the fields. Both a patrol vehicle and the station chief’s vehicle slipped off the embankment, leaving their front wheels suspended and rendering them unable to continue. A tow truck was later called in to recover the vehicles before the investigation could proceed fully.
