Authorities in Nakhon Phanom launched an investigation after the body of an unidentified infant was discovered inside a roadside rubbish bin on 7 December 2025. The grim find was reported at around 16:50, prompting rescue teams, forensic officers and medical staff to respond to the scene. Officials said the infant had likely been dead for at least three days before being found.

The discovery was made on the road in front of Wat Pa Dong Sawang in Ban Nong Bua, Nong Yat subdistrict, Mueang district. Rescue workers from Sawang Nawathat Nakhon Phanom (City Unit) were dispatched following a call from police via the 191 centre. Upon arrival, responders found the infant’s body inside a white bag wrapped in a black T-shirt and left in a garbage container by the roadside.

Initial assessments indicated the child’s sex could not be determined due to the condition of the remains. Police from the Nakhon Phanom Forensic Division, an on-duty doctor from Nakhon Phanom Hospital and the duty investigator from Mueang Nakhon Phanom Police Station conducted an on-site examination. Officials confirmed that further analysis would be carried out at the hospital.

Rescue personnel transferred the body to the hospital morgue for additional forensic work. Investigators said they are gathering evidence from the area, including possible witnesses or CCTV footage, to establish who left the infant in the bin. Authorities noted that determining the cause of death will be a key step in moving the case forward.

Police are now preparing to examine medical records, nearby communities and any recent pregnancy cases to identify the infant. They also urged anyone with information to contact local police. Further updates will be released once forensic results are available.
