The Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc) has issued a call for vigilance among locals, following skirmishes between Thai and Cambodian forces last weekend. Residents are urged to report any sightings of "Cambodian spies" as tensions simmer. The announcement on Monday emphasised the importance of public assistance in identifying potential threats.

Isoc's statement encourages people to use government hotlines to report suspicious behaviour, such as foreigners showing secretive actions, avoiding identification, or engaging in unauthorised activities in restricted areas. Information provided by the public will remain confidential, the agency insists, and will only be used to maintain public security.

Locals are advised to report suspicious activities to Isoc via the 191 hotline, the 1374 Isoc hotline, the 1567 Damrongtham Centre hotline, or through local military units and security officers. The move is part of a broader effort to enhance security protocols following the recent border clashes.

In response to the ongoing tensions, Gen Chaiyaphreuk Duangpraphat, Isoc's secretary-general, has instructed local Isoc offices to collaborate closely with village leaders near the conflict areas. This cooperation aims to prepare evacuation strategies for residents who might be at risk due to escalating hostilities, reported the Bangkok Post.

The Isoc central command regularly receives plans from local offices that outline safe routes and gathering spots. This preparation is viewed as essential to protect vulnerable communities amid uncertain and potentially volatile border conditions.

Key Takeaways:

  • Isoc urges locals to report sightings of Cambodian spies amidst border tensions.
  • Confidential hotlines provided for reporting unusual activities.
  • Evacuation plans are being coordinated for communities at risk.
