Thailand's Meteorological Department has issued a warning regarding unstable weather conditions expected to affect various regions between December 11 and 16. The south of Thailand is projected to experience heavy rain and rough seas, with potential wind and storm activity expected to impact the upper areas of the country.

The advisory highlights significant consequences involving increased rainfall from December 11-13 in the southern provinces, including Prachuap Khiri Khan, Ranong, Phangnga, Krabi, Trang, and Satun. Areas such as Chumphon and Surat Thani can expect very heavy rain. This weather is attributed to a low-pressure cell moving over the lower South China Sea across Vietnam and Thailand.

Forecasts suggest that from December 14-16, the southern regions, such as Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, and Songkhla, will continue to face intense rain. Meanwhile, the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea will experience waves reaching up to 2-3 meters, posing dangers for maritime activities, especially during thunderstorms.

The Meteorological Department advises citizens to prepare for flash floods and runoff, particularly in regions prone to these events. Mariners are urged to exercise caution, avoiding areas with predicted thunderstorms, with specific advice for small boats to stay ashore in the lower Gulf.

Upper Thailand will see isolated thunderstorms followed by a temperature drop of 2-4°C due to a cold front from China, turning the region cooler and windy. Public health advisories have been issued for residents to safeguard their health amidst these changes, and farmers are advised to adopt measures to protect their crops from potential weather-related damage, reported The Nation.

Key Takeaways

  • Southern Thailand will face heavy rain and high waves from December 11-16.
  • Upper Thailand will experience cooler, windy conditions following storms.
  • Caution is advised for flash floods in the south and health impacts in the north.
