A 29-year-old woman was killed instantly when her pickup truck crashed into the rear of a sugarcane-laden articulated lorry in Nakhon Ratchasima province, leaving the vehicle severely damaged. The collision occurred at a busy junction, prompting an emergency response from police and rescue teams. The driver was trapped inside the wreckage and later confirmed dead at the scene.

The collision happened at about 18.30 on 12 December 2025 on Highway 224, shortly before the Nong Suea Bong three-way junction in Orpim subdistrict, Khon Buri district. Police Lieutenant Sub-Inspector Wichai Chantri, an investigator at Khon Buri police station, was notified of the crash involving a pickup truck and a ten-wheel articulated lorry. Rescue workers from the Hook 31 Foundation in Khon Buri were dispatched to secure the area and assist at the scene.

At the location, officers found a white Toyota pickup truck stopped in the right-hand lane, facing towards Nakhon Ratchasima city. The front of the vehicle was extensively damaged after sliding beneath the rear of the lorry. The driver was later identified as Ms Khemika, aged 29, from Khayung subdistrict, Uthumphon Phisai district, Sisaket province.

Rescue workers used hydraulic cutting equipment to free her body from the driver’s seat before transferring her to Khon Buri Hospital for formal examination. Inside the vehicle, authorities found her identification card, important documents, a backpack containing clothing and a camera, and photographs of two boys estimated to be aged between nine and ten. The discovery added to the distressing nature of the incident, police said.

Nearby, the ten-wheel lorry involved in the crash was found parked on the roadside, fully loaded with sugarcane. The driver, Mr Thong, aged 57, remained at the scene to provide a statement to police. He told officers he had been transporting sugarcane from his employer’s farm to a sugar factory when the incident occurred.

Mr Thong said that as he was approaching the site, which is on a relatively steep incline, one of the lorry’s tyres burst. He attempted to steer the vehicle into the right-hand lane so he could reach a tyre repair shop about 100 metres ahead on the opposite side of the road. Before he could stop, the pickup truck collided with the rear of his vehicle.

Matichon reported that an eyewitness, Mr Wiratchai, owner of a nearby Film Garage workshop, said he heard a loud tyre explosion at around 18:00 and then saw the sugarcane lorry travelling in the right lane. Moments later, the pickup truck struck it violently from behind. He rushed to help but found the driver unconscious and trapped, and could only place traffic cones to prevent further incidents and alert authorities. Police have summoned the lorry driver for further questioning and said legal proceedings would follow in accordance with the law.
