Police in Bangkok have arrested a 16-year-old girl for allegedly procuring underage girls for prostitution and taking a cut of their earnings. The arrest, made on December 13, 2024, led to the rescue of two other teenagers, aged 15 and 16, from a hotel room in the Bang Rak district. Authorities acted after an undercover agent arranged a meeting for sexual services.

 

The operation was initiated by the Bang Rak Police Station, led by Superintendent Pol Col Thammasak Sarbun and his deputy. An undercover officer had contacted the suspect to solicit sexual services from individuals under 18. The suspect subsequently brought the two girls to a drink shop and then to a hotel on the arranged evening.

 

Upon a signal from the officer after the girls had prepared for the service, police entered hotel rooms 205 and 206 to rescue them. The 16-year-old suspect was apprehended at a nearby restaurant. In her possession was 7,000 baht in marked banknotes, which matched the serial numbers recorded by police for the operation.

 

The suspect confessed to charges of human trafficking for sexual exploitation of persons aged over 15 but not over 18, procuring for indecent acts and assisting the victims. She admitted to arranging the clients and taking a 200 baht cut from each girl's 3,500 baht service fee, earning 400 baht total from the transaction.

 

The case highlights ongoing concerns about underage exploitation and trafficking networks involving minors in Thailand. Police have not yet indicated if they are seeking further suspects connected to this operation. Such operations are part of broader efforts to combat human trafficking, particularly the exploitation of vulnerable youth.

 

Daily News reported that the two rescued girls are now considered victims in the case. All three individuals were taken to Bang Rak Police Station for processing and further legal action. The suspect will face prosecution under Thailand's human trafficking and child protection laws.

Victims? Do not willingly go to a hotel room and prepare for the man to come have sex with them. These girls knew exactly what they were doing and did it willingly to get the money

"Victims" in the eye of the law.  Underage people cannot legally consent to 'paid-for' sex.

These girls have probably been having sex with school boys for years, now they see that they can earn money. 

 

Would it be termed rescue if it was a one of the girls having paid sex with a school aged boy?

Perhaps another word than 'rescue' could have been used.
