Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) officers have arrested a 37-year-old man known as “Chin Bang Thuat” after he failed to attend court and evaded a prison sentence for more than 13 years in an attempted murder case. The suspect, Mr Chalermwut, was detained outside a house in Pak Phanang district, Nakhon Si Thammarat and taken to Pak Phanang Provincial Court to face enforcement of an outstanding sentence.

The arrest was carried out on 14 December 2568 at 11:00, following an operation by the Crime Suppression Division under the CIB. The suspect was wanted under an arrest warrant issued by Pak Phanang Provincial Court on 22 October 2012, charging him with offences against life and violations of the Firearms Act.

The case dates back to 17 October 2012, when the victim, Mr Chatchadakorn and two friends were riding motorcycles to play football at Pa Rakam School. While travelling along the Pa Rakam Nuea–Pa Rakam Bon road, they encountered a red Isuzu pickup truck carrying around 10 youths, including the suspect, who later turned around and followed them.

Fearing violence due to a prior dispute over a woman both men had previously dated, the victims turned into a villager’s home and stopped about 50 metres from the road. Members of the pursuing group allegedly threw stones, while Mr Chalermwut reportedly fired one shot from a handgun at the group, although no one was hit.

After the incident, the suspect surrendered to police and prosecutors filed charges. A trial court sentenced him to prison, but he was granted temporary release while appealing. When the Appeal Court scheduled the verdict hearing, he failed to appear, leading to a conviction in absentia and a sentence of 10 years and 10 months’ imprisonment, followed by the issuance of an arrest warrant.

Police later learned that the suspect had fled to work as a construction labourer outside the area before returning home due to a lack of work during heavy monsoon rains. Officers from Subdivision 5 of the Crime Suppression Division tracked him to Pak Phanang West subdistrict and planned the arrest.

Matichon reported that the suspect has reportedly confessed to all charges during initial questioning. Authorities have confirmed that he has now been handed over to the court to proceed according to the law, bringing the long-running case to a close.

They can find a foreigner within a few days of a serious search yet, it takes them a decade to find their own citizens. Well, at least they finally caught him and he will have to serve the whole sentence.
