A woman was killed and a man injured after a van crashed into the rear of a sugarcane truck in Wang Saphung district, Loei province, in the early hours of 16 December 2025. The collision left both victims trapped inside the vehicle, requiring rescue teams to use cutting equipment at the scene. Emergency services responded shortly after midnight following reports of casualties and a fatality.

The incident occurred at about 00.15 on 16 December 2025 near the Khok Khamin intersection, around 200 metres towards Wang Saphung, in Khok Khamin subdistrict, Wang Saphung district, Loei province. The Sawang Kiri Tham Rescue Foundation, Wang Saphung unit, received the alert from the Loei Provincial Command Centre reporting a serious road crash, with injured persons and a deceased individual trapped in a vehicle. Rescue volunteers were immediately deployed with specialised cutting and rescue equipment to support operations at the site.

Upon arrival, responders found a black van that had collided with the rear of a sugarcane transport truck. Inside the van, one male was found injured and one female was found deceased, both trapped in the wreckage. Rescue volunteers carried out extrication using cutting tools to safely remove both occupants from the vehicle, working carefully due to the severity of the damage.

The injured man received first aid at the scene before being transferred by emergency services to Wang Saphung Hospital for further treatment. His condition was not further detailed in the report. The deceased woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and rescue personnel subsequently removed her body from the vehicle and transported it to hospital for additional post-mortem examination.

The truck driver, who remained at the scene, reported that he was driving along the road with a full load of sugarcane, when he heard a loud crash. Upon stopping his vehicle he discovered that the van had struck the rear of his vehicle at speed. He also stated that his rear lights were fully operational before the collision, but suffered damage from the impact.

Rescue officials coordinated closely with local authorities and medical staff throughout the operation to ensure the safe handling of the injured and the deceased. The response highlighted the role of provincial command centres and volunteer rescue foundations in managing serious road accidents in the area, particularly during night-time hours when visibility and traffic conditions can increase risks. Authorities are to continue standard investigative and administrative procedures related to the crash, including documenting the scene, questioning the truck driver and completing medical examinations.
