The Royal Thai Army has initiated an urgent mission to locate two missing soldiers after a clash with Cambodian troops near the Ta Kwai temple ruins in Surin province. The confrontation occurred overnight in the contested Hill 350 area. Following their withdrawal from heavy resistance, the Thai troops discovered the absence of Sgt Maj 1st Class Samroeng Khlangprakhon and Pvt Phanuphat Saosa.

The search was delayed due to poor visibility, challenging terrain, the threat of landmines, and ongoing hostile fire. On Wednesday, the Thai forces regrouped, conducting both ground and aerial searches for the soldiers. The 2nd Army Region has expressed sorrow, noting these losses increase the death toll of Thai soldiers in recent clashes with Cambodia to 19.

The conflict arises during ongoing military operations focused on maintaining control over strategic locations such as the Ta Kwai temple ruins, Hill 350, and Hill 225. Thai forces have secured these areas, reinforcing security and implementing tactical measures to protect troops from Cambodian advances.

The current focus at Hill 225 is to maintain strategic control and block enemy reinforcements. Sporadic skirmishes persist, with conditions being continually assessed by military leadership. The situation remains tense as both sides evaluate their positions, reported Bangkok Post.

Key Takeaways

  • Two Thai soldiers are missing after a clash with Cambodian forces.
  • The search is hampered by difficult conditions and ongoing risks.
  • Thai military operations aim to strengthen control of strategic areas.
