A 51-year-old woman has died after being assaulted at her home in Phuket, with her husband arrested at the property on December 17. The victim succumbed to her injuries after being taken to Mission Phuket Hospital, prompting an immediate police investigation. The incident has drawn attention to a fatal domestic violence case in the Rassada area of Phuket City.

Police said they were alerted by the radio centre of Phuket City Police Station to a report of a woman who had been seriously assaulted and later died at the hospital’s emergency department. Investigators attended the hospital and found the victim with extensive bruising across her face and body. She was identified as a 51-year-old woman, with doctors confirming she had died from her injuries.

Following the hospital visit, officers travelled to the house where the assault reportedly occurred, located in Soi Kingkaew 9, Rassada subdistrict. At the scene, police encountered the homeowner, a 54-year-old Thai man identified as the victim’s husband, who was visibly intoxicated. He was detained at the house for questioning.

According to police statements, the suspect told investigators that he and his wife had been drinking alcohol together at their home, just after midnight on December 17. An argument escalated, during which he admitted using a broom handle to repeatedly strike and assault her. He said that in the morning he noticed she was badly bruised and unresponsive, called the 1669 emergency service to take her to hospital and then went to work, believing she would survive.

Senior officers attended both the hospital and the scene, including Pol Lt Col Chatchai Chukaew, superintendent of Phuket City Police Station, and Pol Lt Col Thanyathurong Wutthiwong, deputy superintendent. Investigators documented the injuries and searched the bedroom, where they found a broken broom handle matching the suspect’s account. The item was seized as evidence.

Police said the body showed clear signs of physical assault, and all findings were recorded as part of the case file. The suspect was taken to Phuket City Police Station for further questioning while officers gathered witness statements and forensic evidence. Authorities stated that alcohol consumption appeared to be a significant factor in the incident.

Daily News reported the investigation is continuing, with police preparing to pursue charges under criminal law related to assault causing death. The suspect remains in custody as officers await further forensic and medical results.
