Trump demands Venezuela return ‘land, oil rights’ to U.S.

Under Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro’s predecessor, Hugo Chavez, the Venezuelan government seized assets from some American oil companies after the country nationalized oil fields in 2007.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday assailed his White House predecessors for not pushing back against Venezuela earlier and stated that his intention is “getting land, oil rights, whatever we had” returned by the government in Caracas.

I hope that all those cynics out there who claimed that the narco-terrorism claims were just a pretext feel really ashamed of themselves for getting it right.

It's Venezuelan land to do with as they please. But try telling that to a complete moron.

Besides, his tiny little mind can only hold one thought, and for months that's been one thing only.

International Law is very clear.  Venezuela's oil belongs to Venezuela.

Using this same "logic," Native American Indians can declare war and demand “getting land, oil rights, whatever we had” returned by the government in Murikkka.

Trump promised his supporters, foreign and domestic, no foreign wars.

He’s, now reached the point of failure where he believes the only thing that can save him is a foreign war.

Trump’s foreign supporters might be good with this, many of his domestic supporters will not.

Having skin in the war game matters

But. but, but .... as far as Trump is concerned, there is no international law, only Trump's Law, ie  Trump can do and have whatever he wants .... too bad if 99.99999999999999999999% of the global population disagree.

Heavily redacted files may be released to the House tomorrow, but who would have thought Mad Mike would put the House into recess until next year — so don’t expect anything until then.

And the fact that they sold those rights to American companies, then took them back without agreement or compensation...

How does that figure into international law?  Should the USA take away everything we've sold to BP, Honda, Toyota and every other foreign company, unilaterally and without compensating them?

That could pay off the $36T national debt.  But I don't think it's a good idea under International Law.

Even so, the law says it's Venezuela's oil, compensation has to be paid.

Venezuela did not pay compensation at the time of nationalization. Instead, foreign oil companies had to fight lengthy arbitration cases, with ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips eventually winning billions in awards—though enforcement and actual payment remain contested.  The amount after arbitration is about $8.9B

Several countries at various times have nationalized or seized assets.

The US National Debt is now 38 Trillion USD. It has increased by 2 Trillion USD under Trumps presidency. 555

And another tanker confiscated.

Well, it's still about a substance that Trump wants to keep Americans addicted to.
