Thai and Cambodian officials have announced a ceasefire scheduled to take effect on December 27, following intensive border discussions. The revised draft agreement, resulting from three days of negotiations, awaits the approval of Thailand's National Security Council. The talks concluded in Chanthaburi province with both sides ready for a truce, anticipated to last for 72 hours.

The Thai-Cambodian General Border Committee (GBC) wrapped up discussions on December 26 at an immigration office near the border. The Thai delegation was led by Lt. Gen. Natthapong Phraokaeo, while the Cambodian side was represented by Maj. Gen. Nyam Boraden. Cambodia shared the sixth draft of the agreement before departing, and this draft is now pending review by Thailand's Council, chaired by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.

A signing ceremony is being organized for December 27, potentially involving Thai Defence Minister Gen. Natthapol Nakpanich and Cambodian Defence Minister Gen. Tea Seiha. Preparations are underway, with plans to shift briefings to the negotiation venue in Chanthaburi. The ceasefire is planned to be closely monitored and is seen as a significant step in de-escalating border tensions.

Experts highlight the importance of this agreement in stabilizing relations and ensuring peace along the border. There are cautious yet optimistic expectations from both parties regarding the truce's success. The outcome is crucial as it could set a precedent for future diplomatic engagements between the two nations.

As developments proceed, all eyes are on the upcoming decision from Thailand's National Security Council. Should the agreement receive approval, it could pave the way for further diplomatic efforts and long-term resolution of border disputes, reported Khaosod.

Key Takeaways

  • A ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia is expected to commence on December 27.
  • The draft agreement is currently pending approval from Thailand's National Security Council.
  • A potential signing ceremony is being prepared for December 27.

Places to be, things to do ?

There was heavy bombing this morning to be heard, and calls to prepare to evacuate again, until about 12:30 - Chong Chom area - quiet now.

Maybe something is taking effect - everyone has certainly had a belly full, around here.

72 hours?  whats the point?   just enough time to reload and stock up , maybe thats what its for

They will be at it again for new years eve then?

of course those of us who live near the border are sick of this   The higher ups could not care less

Well, no landmine explosions while fighting... let's see if they start exploding with a ceasefire...there seems to be a pattern forming

That's because they look after their own interests, not those of Thailand or Thais...the whole border incident is bull<deleted>...in fact the government, mainly the PM, and the military, could have lese Majeste charges to answer to....they have insulted the king (Rama V), who agreed the 1904 border is correct...

Well, December 27, 2027... there's still time.:coffee1:

Hopefully it will work out this time around, fingers crossed.

who are these so called   "experts"  and in what field is their expertise? I mean anybody with half a brain cell could make a statement like that , even me,

Was this done without Trump?

Not good news.

The tentative ceasefire , according to a BBC correspondent , will not last . Even when the signing of the agreement there were bitter remarks from both parties . I will not be surprised if fighting starts at the end of the 72 hour truce . As far as the re-opening of the borders go , that's anyone's guess . Thailand's military have inflicted a lot of damage to Cambodian buildings both military and businesses as far as 50 miles inside Cambodia and includes tourist areas of Siem Reap . Cambodian army are aggrieved at their losses and Hun Sen may well have a plan of retaliation because he does not care about his armies fatalities  .

At the moment it is still possible to fly from Bangkok to Cambodia but for how much longer ?

Not good news.

Trump is busy bombing northern Nigeria, fishing boats in international waters and amassing a huge armada just off Venezuela.

Just where does the “Peace President “ get his energy from?

That was a misprint.

The original article says the truce  will be monitored for 72 hours, not that it will last only 72 hours.

thank god for that   sounds like happy new year after all   cheers

Many on this forum seem to be quick to blame the Thais for this, but I see Hun Sen and Hun Manet almost entirely at fault for this. It started with the leaking of that conversation and it just degenerated from there. My sense is that with all the issues with the scam centers lately and all the negative international publicity Sen was hungry for a battle and they seem to be getting about as much Chinese supporters as they need. The toxic CCP seems to be playing both sides.

Let us hope they're able to figure out a way to resolve this.
