Six Myanmar nationals were killed when a pickup truck crashed through a roadside barrier and plunged into a canal in Thanyaburi district, Pathum Thani, late Tuesday night at around 10pm. The incident prompted an immediate rescue effort by local residents, who entered the water to help those trapped. Seven people were pulled from the canal alive, while emergency services confirmed multiple fatalities at the scene.

Police said the pickup truck was carrying 13 Myanmar workers, including the driver, who were travelling from Chonburi Province to attend a merit-making ceremony. The group was moving through an unfamiliar area in Thanyaburi when the crash occurred. The road reportedly runs straight before curving sharply to the right at an underpass that crosses the canal.

Investigators believe the driver did not anticipate the sudden bend and was unable to brake in time. The vehicle struck a safety barrier and continued into the canal, submerging shortly after impact. The force of the crash is thought to have ejected some passengers from the vehicle as it entered the water.

Local residents were among the first to respond and managed to rescue seven survivors, comprising four men and three women. Two men sustained injuries and were taken to Lam Luk Ka Hospital for treatment. The remaining survivors were assessed at the scene by emergency responders.

Shortly after midnight, divers from the Por Teck Tung Foundation located the submerged pickup truck. Three bodies, identified as two men and one woman, were found trapped inside the vehicle. Police said the other three victims are believed to have been thrown clear of the truck during the impact and were found in the canal.

Khoasod reported that authorities continued search and recovery operations in and around the canal in the day light hours. Police are examining the crash site and vehicle to confirm the sequence of events and determine whether any additional factors contributed to the crash.
