A construction worker was found dead beside a pond near a railway line in Pathum Thani province after being electrocuted while using fishing equipment, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances of his death. The incident occurred on Saturday, 3 January 2026, and resulted in the death of a 41-year-old man, leaving his family and colleagues in shock.

Police were alerted at about 11.00am when a body was discovered near a pond close to the railway tracks in Chiang Rak Noi subdistrict, Sam Khok district. Officers from Khlong Luang Police Station, led by Pol Lt Col Siroj Naepnian, deputy superintendent of investigations, attended the scene with forensic doctors from Thammasat University Hospital and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation. The deceased was identified as Maung Kyuak, aged 41, who was found lying beside the pond with electric fishing equipment located nearby.

Investigators established that the man was employed as a construction worker on the high-speed rail project in the area. Initial examinations at the scene found no signs of assault, while the presence of electrical cables and fishing equipment suggested possible accidental electrocution. Forensic doctors estimated that the man had been dead for approximately eight to twelve hours before his body was found.

The victim’s wife, Ms Supranee, aged 35, told police that her husband had left their accommodation the previous night to go fishing and did not return by morning. Concerned, she went out to search for him and found his body lying face down in the pond with electrical wires wrapped around him. She called fellow workers to help remove him from the water and untangle the cables, but it was clear he had already died.

Police documented the scene and collected photographic evidence before arranging for the body to be transferred to Thammasat University Hospital for a full post-mortem examination. Pol Lt Col Siroj said the results would be used to confirm the exact cause of death, although preliminary findings were consistent with electrocution while fishing. The investigation remains focused on establishing whether any other factors contributed to the fatal incident.

Naewna reported that authorities have not indicated that any charges will be filed at this stage. Further steps will depend on forensic results and any additional witness statements. The body will be released to relatives for funeral arrangements once examinations are complete.
