A man allegedly under the influence of drugs has been arrested after killing his mother and severing her head in a rural village in Amnat Charoen province, a crime that shocked residents and prompted a swift police response. The incident occurred on 4 January 2026 in Ban Non Sung village, Moo 4, Na Wiang subdistrict, Senangkhanikhom district. Villagers alerted authorities after seeing the suspect walking through the village with blood covering his face.

Police identified the suspect as Mongkol, 42 and the victim as his mother, Sroi, 71. Officers said the woman was found dead inside her home with her throat and neck cut, while her severed head had been taken to a nearby rice field beside the house. The brutality of the killing caused immediate fear among residents, leading village leaders to issue warnings over the loudspeaker system.

According to the initial investigation, Mongkol used a machete to attack his mother inside the house. After the killing, he allegedly carried her head to the adjoining rice field and left it there. He then walked into the village and sat by the roadside, still covered in blood, where he was later seen by passing villagers.

One witness, Lamyai, 57, told police she saw Mongkol sitting by the road earlier that morning. She initially believed he had been involved in an accident and asked what had happened, but became alarmed when he appeared aggressive and unfocused. Knowing he had a history of drug use and had recently returned from rehabilitation, she quickly informed the village headman.

Village headman Chanchan Sangkharuek, 59, said he was among the first to arrive at the scene after receiving reports from residents. He announced the situation to villagers via the community loudspeaker before going to the house with his assistant. After hesitating to enter, they found Sroi’s body inside and immediately contacted police to detain the suspect.
