A pickup truck crashed into a school in Lampang province, smashing through a kindergarten classroom and injuring one child, prompting an urgent police investigation. The incident caused panic among pupils and teachers, who were inside the room at the time.

The crash occurred at about 12.15 pm on 7 January 2026 at a school in Mueang district, Lampang. Police from Khelang Nakhon Police Station were alerted to a vehicle ploughing into a school building and quickly coordinated with Amarin Rescue and Sawang Nakhon Lampang rescue teams to attend the scene.

On arrival, officers found a pickup truck lodged half inside a classroom wall after breaking through the building. The vehicle had first struck a bicycle and a motorcycle parked beside the school before crashing into a Kindergarten 2 classroom, where tables and chairs were left scattered across the room.

Inside the classroom, several teachers and pupils had been resting and taking part in activities during the lunch break. One child suffered a minor head injury with swelling and was given first aid by rescue workers, while other children were reported to be safe.

Witnesses said a teacher noticed the vehicle approaching and instructed the children to lie flat on the floor moments before the impact. Debris from the collapsing wall and masonry struck parts of the classroom, narrowly avoiding more serious injuries.

The driver, a man aged 50, remained at the scene to give a statement to investigators but was described as confused. A passenger travelling with him sustained a nose injury and told police they had been invited by the driver to go out for lunch and were returning home when the crash occurred.

According to the passenger, the road at the location forms a three-way junction, with the school directly ahead. For reasons still unclear, the driver suddenly accelerated into the school grounds.

Police said the driver is currently undergoing treatment for a mental health condition and takes regular medication. Officers are continuing to question him as part of the investigation to determine the precise cause of the crash. Khoasod reported that authorities are assessing damage to the school building and reviewing safety measures around the junction.
