January 9Jan 9 Here in Nonthaburi there's a local election on Sunday 11th January.I have no idea if this is just us, or other privinces, too.My reason for asking is, of course, because I am planning a few beers at lunch, plus an evening in Nana.Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
January 9Jan 9 Election Commission has stated there is a ban under the Local Election Act (2019) and that similar alcohol restrictions are routinely applied around Thai elections to help maintain public order, curb vote-buying incentives, and ensure a calm environment on polling day. Local authorities have been instructed to monitor compliance, and the EC says violators will be prosecuted. Normal sales and service may resume at 6pm on Sunday, once the prohibition period ends.IMO there will not be a lot of enforcement - this is not a directive from the Police HQ or Govt but from a tin-pot General at the EC. And obviously the regulation ban that applies under the Local Election Act should only apply to Thais - the people that vote under the Local Elections Act - not to Tourists or Expats (who cannot vote).
