Opal Fever

Featured Replies

I recently watched the whole series of Aussie Gold Hunters and got gold fever. I then began watching the 14 seasons of Outbak Opal Hunters and now have opal fever which cured my gold fever. The main sympton of opal fever is the urge to own Opal so I bought a small parcel of in the rough opals from a group of opal hunters on the TV show via online auctions that they run weekly. The opals are now with my son in Australia and I will pick them up when I visit next month. I would like to get them cut and polished etc and have been researching opal cutters in Australia. The problem is, they are pretty expensive. My opals are not top quality but will make nice stones once cut and polished. They are white Coober Pedy Opals.

I was thinking that perhaps I could get them cut and polished in Thailand. I am open to any suggestions and advice about getting them cut here in Thailand. Where should I start looking for somebody to do the job for example.

Attached are 2 photos of similar opal to what I bought. The first is in the rough and the second is what it should end up like.

Your thoughts and advice would greatfully be appreciated.
