A decomposed body of an unidentified man was found beneath a bridge in Udon Thani province on 8 January, prompting a police investigation and an appeal for relatives to come forward. Authorities believe the man died three to four days earlier after falling from the bridge while intoxicated, with no evidence of foul play found at the scene.

The body was discovered under a bridge crossing Huai Bo canal on the Sang Khom–Ban Dung road in Moo 7, Ban Tha Siao, Sang Khom district. Police, forensic officers, medical staff from Sang Khom Hospital, municipal rescue teams and volunteers attended the scene following reports from local residents.

The deceased was described as a slim man aged about 35 to 40, approximately 165 centimetres tall. He was wearing a green camouflage-pattern long-sleeved jacket, black jeans and pink flip-flops and was found lying on his right side beneath a bridge about five metres high.

A small bottle of white liquor, around half full, was found near his right hand, with another empty bottle and an opened packet of snacks discovered nearby on the grass. Police reported the body was bloated, indicating death had occurred several days earlier.

An initial examination found the man’s left shoulder dislocated and his neck broken, injuries consistent with a fall from height. There were no wounds or signs suggesting an assault and no identification documents were found on his person.

Investigators also found muddy shoe prints on the bridge railing directly above where the body was discovered. Inside the man’s jacket pocket, officers found only four sweets, providing no clue to his identity.

Pol Capt Fahsathan Laosena, deputy investigation officer at Sang Khom Police Station, said the man was believed to be an outsider or possibly homeless. Police suspect he had been drinking white liquor on the bridge, became intoxicated and accidentally fell to his death. Local residents told officers they did not recognise the man and had not seen the incident occur. The body was reportedly discovered by villagers who had come to fish in the canal.

Police have transferred the body to Udon Sawang Methatham Foundation for a full post-mortem examination at Srinagarind Hospital in Khon Kaen province to confirm the exact cause of death. Investigators are also questioning community leaders in nearby districts, including Na Mai in Ban Dung district and areas of Phon Phisai district in Nong Khai.

Khoasod reported that authorities are asking anyone who believes the deceased may be a missing relative to contact Sang Khom Police Station or Pol Capt Fahsathan at 087-234-8575 at any time.
