A 52-year-old man found dead beneath a bridge in Udon Thani has been confirmed as the victim of a fatal assault by his elder brother, overturning initial police assumptions that he had fallen accidentally. Police said the suspect confessed after video evidence emerged, leading to his arrest and prosecution.

The body of Mr Jaroon, a resident of Ban Non Suksa village in Ban Chan subdistrict, Ban Dung district, was discovered under a bridge crossing Huai Bo canal in Moo 7, Sang Khom subdistrict, Sang Khom district. The discovery was made during the morning of 8 January 2026, and investigators estimated that he had been dead for at least four days. He was found clutching a bottle of white liquor, prompting early speculation that he had fallen while intoxicated.

At the time, police at Sang Khom Police Station believed the death was accidental, citing family accounts that Mr Jaroon had a psychiatric illness and regularly consumed alcohol. No immediate signs of foul play were identified during the initial examination.

On 10 January 2026, residents of Ban Non Suksa submitted a video clip to police that contradicted the original theory. The footage showed Mr Paisan, aged 57 and the victim’s elder brother, verbally abusing and physically assaulting Mr Jaroon prior to his death.

According to investigators, Mr Paisan later told relatives that he had killed his younger brother by throwing him off the bridge. Police subsequently detained him for questioning, during which he admitted his involvement.

Mr Paisan told police that on 4 January 2026 he had argued with and assaulted his brother before travelling by motorcycle to visit another sibling in Sang Khom district. Upon reaching the bridge where the incident occurred, Mr Jaroon sat on the bridge railing, and Mr Paisan pushed him in the chest, causing him to fall. He said the act was driven by anger following frequent disputes and that he was intoxicated at the time.

“I’m sorry, little brother. I didn’t mean it. I just pushed him lightly and didn’t think he would die,” Mr Paisan told investigators. He maintained that he had not intended to cause his brother’s death.

Pol Lt Col Thanin Inthrakong, Deputy Superintendent of Investigation and acting superintendent of Sang Khom Police Station, said the case progressed after the video evidence came to light. He confirmed that Mr Paisan has been handed over for legal proceedings in accordance with the law. SiamNews reported  that police said the investigation is continuing as the case moves through the judicial process.
