Opening aThai Bank Account

Featured Replies

I will be entering Thailand on a Non O visa and would like to open a Kasikorn or a Krungsri Bank account.

I will use this account to deposit ฿400,000 for the extension based on marriage to a Thai spouse.

To open my Bangkok Bank account, I just neaded my passport . Have the rules changed and what else will I need? Maybe a certificate of residence ?

Also which Bank would you ho for Kasikorn Bank or Krungsri ?

I recently opened an account with Kasikorn , just needed a certificate of residence, I had a non - O visa 3 months . Don't bother trying at SCB ,they need a 1 year visa .

Suggest Kasikorn.

They may accept just the Non O (you have) + lease.

They may also require a COR.

Plan B would be just to use your BBL account for first extension then at some point open an account with another bank.

Edit: note if you use CW. Kasikorn do not have a branch there nor does SCB

I do not have a lease as I live with my partner in the house we had built.

Previously my partner and l had to attend Immigration with the Tabien baan when I was on retirement extensions.

I am in Udon and Kasikorn have a branch opposite the Police/ Immigration building which is ideal for the bank letter and statement.

Bangkok Bank is almost next door but I will only use my Bangkok Bank account for marriage extension if I am unsuccessful at opening a new Kasikorn account.

If I was to do my first extension at the end of my 90 days with Bangkok Bank.

How long would the funds need to be in my account.

I know it is supposed to be 2 months prior to the extension but due to many reports of the 4 month rule to get a statement I am unsure.

Yes it's two months prior to application for extension.

The bank will provide a 12 month bank statement no problem.

Note BBL requires few days to process that. 3-5 days is usual.

The other thing you need from the bank is Bank Letter.

This is when BBL will ask you to sign some nonsense form and may freeze the funds for 4 months.

(yes ridiculous)

Suggest you accept this nonsense since you are with BBL and change banks for subsequent extensions.

Edit: overlooked that this is your first extension. A 3 month bank statement will be fine and BBL can provide that on the spot.

Attached is pic of Bank Letter (Kasikorn)

The immigration rule is 2 months and you may also need to keep it there for the under consideration period.

Bangkok Bank have their own "rules" and if the money have not been there for 4 months when you ask for the letter they may freeze 400k for 4 months.

Did you know immigration has moved from it's old place in the centre of Udon ? It used to be very convenient- near shops , restaurants etc . Not sure exactly where the new place is , but I think it's 2- 3 miles out of town .Just checked, it's at Nong Samrong , next to the lake , maybe chance of a swim while waiting for the visa 😀

Used to be ideal for the banks which were 100 yards away but now more of a trek.
