The Land Transportation Office–Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR) is investigating a motorcycle rider, a call center agent, after a viral video showed him allegedly blocking a firetruck responding to a blaze in Bacolod City. The incident, which occurred on January 15, 2026, forced the firetruck to slow down as the motorcycle continued along the road without yielding, despite the sirens and warning lights.

The video sparked concern as the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)–Bacolod was responding to a fire in Barangay Alijis. Fire Inspector Jemarie Tapiru emphasized the urgency of such situations, stating, “Every second counts during fire and medical emergencies. Delays can mean the difference between life and death, and between minor damage and total loss of property.”

The BFP has urged motorists to remain alert and yield immediately to emergency vehicles to ensure swift and safe responses. Using the LTO Information Technology System, authorities identified the registered owner of the motorcycle. Initial findings revealed that the rider, although of legal age, did not possess a valid driving license, which could exacerbate the situation.

Possible violations include reckless driving, obstruction, driving without a license, and delinquent vehicle registration. The registered owner may also face penalties if they knowingly allowed an unlicensed individual to operate the motorcycle.

The LTO-NIR reiterated its commitment to road safety, noting that failing to yield to emergency vehicles could be classified as reckless driving under Section 48 of Republic Act No. 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code. Additionally, the agency highlighted Section 29, which holds vehicle owners accountable for allowing unauthorized or incapable individuals to drive, reported Balita.

Key Takeaways

  • LTO-NIR investigates a call center agent for blocking a firetruck.

  • The rider lacked a valid license, escalating potential penalties.
