A football match in Krabi province descended into violence on 24 January 2026, forcing organisers to abandon play after a mass brawl involving players, team officials and supporters. The incident occurred during the Krabi Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO) Cup, an annual tournament intended to promote unity among local communities and drew widespread criticism for undermining the event’s purpose.

The disturbance broke out late in the match between the Khao Din Subdistrict Administrative Organisation team from Khao Phanom district and the Pakasai Subdistrict Administrative Organisation team from Nuea Khlong district. The game was being held at the football ground inside the Krabi campus of the Thailand National Sports University. At the time of the incident, Pakasai were leading by four goals to nil.

According to reports, tensions had been building throughout the match, with several on-field clashes between players from both sides. As the final stages of the game approached, members of the crowd and team officials entered the pitch and pushed players, escalating the situation. The confrontation quickly turned into a physical fight involving players from both teams as well as supporters, spreading across the field.

The chaos prompted officials to halt the match immediately to prevent further injuries and restore order. Video footage of the brawl circulated widely, prompting public debate about sportsmanship, discipline and crowd control at local sporting events. Critics highlighted the contrast between the tournament’s stated goal of fostering harmony and the violent scenes that unfolded.

The Krabi PAO Cup is now in its 21st year and is a long-running community competition involving teams from subdistrict administrations across the province. This year’s tournament features 48 teams and the match in question was part of the round of 32. Organisers said the event is designed to strengthen relationships between communities from different districts and subdistricts.

Amarin reported that in response to the incident, tournament organisers indicated that both teams involved may be ruled to have lost the match by default. However, they said a formal investigation would be conducted before any final decision is made. The inquiry will focus on determining how the violence started and which parties were responsible, with appropriate disciplinary action to follow.
