In Chonburi province, a stray dog stunned villagers after it was seen carrying and chewing packages containing nearly 20,000 methamphetamine pills. These were left scattered along a roadside in Huai Yai, prompting a police investigation. The discovery was made around 09.30 on January 28, 2026, when local residents informed Attaphon Koetthong, the headman of the subdistrict.

The incident occurred near Highway 7, linking Jomtien and Map Ta Phut. Authorities, including Nathaphop Yomjinda, deputy district chief, and local police, responded promptly. They found numerous blue bags containing the pills, some wrapped in brown tape, scattered across the road and surrounding areas such as fields and rubbish piles.

Police recovered nearly 20,000 methamphetamine pills, valued at approximately 500,000 baht. They estimate an actual count closer to 18,000 pills, excluding those damaged or lost by the stray dog's actions. Residents described this as the first major drug seizure of its kind for the area.

Investigators suspect the drugs were intended for collection by a trafficking network's local agent but were scattered after being discovered by the dog. Efforts are underway to review CCTV footage to trace those responsible.

The dog involved could not be located. Villagers are observing local strays for abnormal behavior, as some pills were bitten and licked. Authorities will provide assistance if any animals show signs of distress, reported Khaosod.

Key Takeaways

  • Nearly 20,000 methamphetamine pills were found scattered in Chonburi.
