A South Korean restaurant owner, Hwang Chang Nam, has been sentenced to five years in prison in Ho Chi Minh City for running a prostitution operation at a karaoke bar. The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court on January 27 found Hwang guilty of procuring prostitution. His associate, Jung Jong Pil, received a four-year sentence, while three others received sentences ranging from three to three and a half years.

Hwang, who entered Vietnam in 2003, allegedly transformed a karaoke bar he took over in July 2023 into a front for illicit activities targeting South Korean patrons. The bar employed a system where female employees willing to participate in prostitution wore red wristbands. Coordinated by managers, these activities were organized for customer selection.

The management allegedly promoted these services on social media and negotiated prices, often suggesting standard rates. Police inspections on December 30, 2023, led to the arrest of three couples engaged in prostitution at a hotel and apartment, revealing the involvement of bar employees.

Nearly 200 young women were recruited for these operations, which included nude dancing and prostitution. Clients arrived in luxury vehicles and were entertained at the restaurant before being taken to high-end hotels or apartments. During the trial, Hwang and others admitted their actions, with Hwang claiming ignorance of Vietnamese law and insisting he did not profit from the prostitution itself, reported VN Express.

Key Takeaways

  • Hwang Chang Nam was sentenced to five years for running a brothel.

  • The bar used a red wristband system to identify participating employees.

  • Investigations revealed the recruitment of nearly 200 women.

He didn’t profit from the prostitution 😂🤣

Just in case you didn't see any dishes on the menu that appeal to you, I have some specials available today.

Shocking I tell you. Two adults agreeing to have a little fun and government wants to lock you away.

I look around Pattaya and look at the buses from the airport rolling in all day long. If it was so wrong there wouldn't be a huge volume of traffic for a little fun with a pretty girl.
