The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is investigating allegations that some volunteer firefighters stole alcohol from a supermarket damaged by fire in Brgy. Pasong Putik, North Fairview, Quezon City. The incident, which occurred early on Wednesday, January 28, has prompted the BFP to emphasize their commitment to integrity while responding to emergencies.

The fire broke out at around 4:44 AM and reached the fifth alarm by 5:16 AM. It was completely extinguished by 8:01 AM. During the response effort, BFP spokesperson Fire Superintendent Anthony Arroyo reported receiving information that some volunteers allegedly took bottles of alcohol while efforts to contain the blaze were ongoing.

Arroyo clarified that there is no indication the involved individuals are official BFP personnel. A comprehensive investigation is underway to verify the allegations against the volunteer firefighters. About 30 volunteer firefighter groups responded to the blaze, and all personnel involved are currently undergoing verification.

If the allegations are proven true, the implicated individuals could face criminal charges and lose their certificates of competency. The BFP continues to remind all responders of the need to maintain discipline and integrity, especially during emergency operations, reported Balita.
