A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after fatally stabbing his uncle more than 13 times at a family home in Amnat Charoen province, in an incident that shocked the local community. Police said the teenager remained at the scene and surrendered shortly after the attack on 2 February 2026. The victim died at the house before emergency services could save him.

The incident occurred at a single-storey concrete house at 80 Moo 3, Non Nam Thaeng subdistrict, Mueang district, Amnat Charoen. Police from Mueang Amnat Charoen Police Station were alerted to a knife attack with a fatality, and senior officers coordinated forensic staff, a duty doctor from Amnat Charoen Hospital, and rescue workers from the Phetkasem Amnat Charoen Foundation to inspect the scene. The deceased was identified as Mr Phaitoon Chaiyapong, aged 44.

Officers found Mr Phaitoon’s body behind the house with multiple stab wounds to the chest, face and back, totalling 13 injuries. The suspect, identified only as Mr Ka, the victim’s nephew, waited at the property to give himself up. After the incident, he also informed the village headman that he had stabbed his uncle.

During initial questioning, the suspect told police he had been sitting with an older friend, Mr Kit, aged 17, at a shelter behind the house when the victim approached. He said the uncle shouted abuse, argued with him and slapped him forcefully across the face, prompting him to grab a knife stored in a box under a wooden platform. He claimed he stabbed once without knowing where it struck, after which the victim allegedly picked up a piece of wood and hit him, leading to a struggle in which both used weapons.

According to the suspect, the stabbing continued during the fight until the victim collapsed and said he surrendered. The teenager then went to inform the village headman and returned to wait at the house until police arrived. Investigators noted that no other family members were present at the time.

The victim’s mother, Mrs Phairawan Chaiyapong, told police that the pair often exchanged sharp words but had not previously been violent. She said her son was known for sarcastic remarks, while the nephew was usually quiet and withdrawn. Another relative, who asked not to be named, said tensions between uncle and nephew had been ongoing, though details of this specific dispute were unclear.

Khaosod reported that police have charged the suspect with intentional homicide and informed him of his legal rights. He and the seized knife have been handed to investigators at Mueang Amnat Charoen Police Station for further legal proceedings.
