Phuket Airport Immigration reported on 8 February that two Turkish men were arrested at Phuket International Airport on 4 February 4, after immigration officers discovered they had allegedly used counterfeit entry stamps and overstayed in Thailand for more than two and a half years. The suspects, both aged 30, were detained in the international departure hall at around 5:30 pm while attempting to leave the country.

Authorities said the men were charged with using counterfeit stamps, seals or visa labels, and with being foreign nationals staying in the Kingdom without permission or after their permission had expired. Immigration officials confirmed the overstay period was 918 days, a serious violation under Thai immigration law.

The arrests were carried out by the Phuket Airport Immigration investigation team in coordination with departure officers. The operation was conducted under the direction of Acting Pol Col Ying Rassarin Theeraphatthanakun, Superintendent of Phuket Airport Immigration, and Pol Lt Col Praphat Khattiya, Deputy Superintendent.

The investigation team was led by Acting Pol Lt Col Akkraphon Kaewkiatyot, an inspector at Phuket Airport Immigration. Officers from the suppression and investigation unit (Unit 2) and departure officers from Shift 4 also took part in the operation, according to the official statement.

Immigration authorities said the suspects were found to have used fake inbound immigration stamps to conceal their extended overstay in Thailand. The alleged counterfeit stamps were identified during departure processing, prompting further checks and immediate arrest at the airport.

Following their detention, both men were transferred to Sakhu Police Station in Phuket province. They were handed over to investigators to face formal legal proceedings in accordance with Thai law, officials confirmed.

Thai immigration law treats the use of forged or counterfeit official stamps as a serious criminal offence, particularly when combined with long-term overstaying. Cases involving extended overstays and document fraud are often subject to prosecution, fines, detention, and eventual deportation, along with possible blacklisting from re-entering Thailand.

Officials have not released further details about how the fake stamps were obtained or how long the investigation into the suspects’ activities may continue. Immigration authorities said the case remains under investigation as legal procedures move forward.
