February 9Feb 9 I went 2 years ago. It is like the 1970s. Funky town. Bit boring after a while. But good for photos.
February 16Feb 16 I don't live there, just work there about 8 weeks per year. I like Vientiane, it is a bit like stepping back in time about 20 years, I wouldn't say as far back as the 70s. That said the city is changing rapidly, lots of new developments, many will result in the city losing its charm, as old buildings are pulled down to be replaced with boring concrete and steel, thankfully it's a long way from becoming another KL or Bangkok. But it depends what you're looking for, raging nightlife hot spot it ain't, pleasant riverside low rise city with good food, excellent beer all at reasonable rates then yes. Internet is pretty good, transport works well with several ride hailing apps to choose from, Thai baht is widely accepted, if not there are plenty of ATM options, Kasikorn & Krungsri both have branches in Vientiane, and Thai/Laos language understood/understandable.I'm told ladies are available but I've not investigated.
