Operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) have seized approximately P2.7 million worth of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) in raids targeting illegal trading operations in Laguna and La Union. The operations led to the arrest of four individuals involved in the unlawful trading and refilling of LPG. The culprits are now facing criminal charges following the raids conducted on February 6.

The first raid occurred in Barangay San Fermin, Caba, La Union, where officials confiscated products and equipment valued at P550,000. Later that day, a similar operation took place in Barangay Gulod, Cabuyao, Laguna, resulting in the seizure of around P2.1 million in LPG products and equipment. According to CIDG director Maj. Gen. Robert Alexander Morico II, the businesses involved in these operations were distributing petroleum goods without the necessary permits and clearances from the Department of Energy.

Morico emphasized the significance of these actions in enforcing regulations against illegal trading activities. He called upon the public to assist in reporting any illegal petroleum trading, cigarette smuggling, or other unlawful activities to the CIDG. The director underlined the agency’s commitment to upholding laws and ensuring all violators are held accountable for their actions.

Looking forward, continuous efforts by the CIDG aim to curb illegal trading activities across the country. These operations serve as a reminder of the importance of regulatory compliance in the distribution of petroleum products. Authorities are expected to intensify monitoring and inspections to prevent similar violations in the future, reported Manila Bulletin.
