Over the weekend, the Panama-flagged Sealloyd Arc sank about three nautical miles south of Laem Phromthep while traveling from Malaysia to Bangladesh. The incident caused all 297 containers on board to submerge with the vessel. Despite initial concerns, PCD's Water Quality Management Division head, Chanan Tiranarat, noted the minimal risk to marine life, emphasizing continuous monitoring due to potential changes in wind and sea conditions.

Refined petroleum disperses and dissolves more readily than crude oil, lessening environmental hazards as compared to the 2013 Ao Prao Beach crude spill.
